Office Supplies

School is getting ready to start and the office supplies are dwindling fast. A co-opt here for the summer was observed filling up her purse with supplies from the cabinet.  At least the regular employees are more discreet.

The co-opt will be dealt with by her manager.  It makes me VERY, VERY ANNOYED, to have to be the big, bad when it comes to office supplies. I'm going to have to lock the cabinets until school starts.

Word to the wise, taking office supplies from your place of business is considered stealing.
Are pens, pencils and notebooks worth losing your job?

Acumulus Nimbus

Admin Gal is amazed, appalled, and astonished at the amount of office supplies that have been found in abandoned desk drawers and overhead bins.

One would think that people might be preparing for an apocalypse - of expense reports and other such horrors.

Really?

Why must do people need 20 bottles of correction fluid, 5 boxes of staples with one staple row missing, 30 rubber finger tips of varying sizes- I won't even go there, and possibly a partridge in a file drawer.

What we can't use in the new building, we'll donate.

Sigh

We are All Adults... Maybe

Didn't your mother teach you, when you take the last of anything you tell someone?

In the office environment, you tell the person who orders office supplies when you take the last of something.
Seriously?  How are they supposed to know.  By their super-dooper, psychic spidey sense attuned to the supply cabinet.

Or possibly the emergency office supply dog that will come bounding down the cubicle aisle like Lassie did to raise the alarm.

The admin goes to the supply cabinet once-a-week to do inventory.  If there is a run on an item and the last one is taken.  Courtesy should prevail.  Let. The. Admin. Know!

The Admin can only work so many miracles.  Reading minds is not among them.

Supply Management

Admin Gal doesn't mean to complain -- actually she does.  In her office, she has had a vast influx of new consultants from far off lands who apparently do not understand that office supplies are not to be hoarded, taken home or used frivolously.

Seriously, how many pens can one person use in a month?  Or pads of paper?  Or correction tape?

The sad reality is that the office supplies are dwindling faster than they ought too.  Admin Gal's trust has been sorely abused.  She is going to have to lock the supply cabinet and be put out as every Tom, Harry and Sanjay comes to her desk to beg for a pen or pencil.  I do not want this.  But if this is the only way I can manage the office supplies, so be it.

Crime Alert

This morning, Admin Gal walked into her cubicle to find that her gel mouse wrist rest had been murdered.

The murder weapon lay in plain sight on the floor.  A blue tack.

Method of Death?  A hundred holes poked into the loyal defenseless wrist rest.

Time of Death? Sometime around midnight.

Suspects?  Obviously someone who does not understand Admin Gal's wrath.

The wrist rest was fine when Admin Gal left the office at 5pm on the dot last night.  There are only a few people it can be.  Words will be had.

Funeral services for the loyal wrist rest to be announced

Not In Your Job Description?

Okay people.  Didn't your mothers teach you anything?  When you take the last of anything, DO NOT LEAVE THE CARCASS MOLDERING FOR OTHERS TO DISPOSE OF!
Taking the last of anything and leaving the empty container is rude.  When asked the perpetrators are asked 'Why did you leave this garbage in the supply cabinet when there is a trash can next to it?' And their reply is 'It's not my job?'
SERIOUSLY!?!?!?!?!?!  What planet where they raised on?
It's not my job to play nurse maid to a bunch of supposed adults who should be able to pick up after themselves.  A word to the wise, it is EVERYBODY's job to contribute to a healthy environment.  If that means picking up after yourselves, so be it!
Lack of responsibility is a pet peeve of mine in the supply cabinet.  I expect a certain amount of maturity to be exhibited.  You take the last thing, you need to do the following:
  1. Tell the person who maintains the supplies. (Yes, folks, that is ME!)
  2. Throw away the empty containers. (This won't kill you, demote you, or demean you.)
  3. Do not expect 1 & 2 to be done by others!
While this is not a difficult concept on paper, the actual application and implementation is apparently beyond the capabilities of mature adults who hold down jobs where multi-million dollar decisions are being made.
Or it could be I'm dealing with idiot savants.

Office Supplies

j03857013The purpose of Office Supplies is not to supply your home office, your children’s school supplies, your church auxiliaries or any other non-work related activity.  Instead, Office Supplies are to be used specifically for the purpose of conducting your job.
My job is to order Office Supplies.  Not supplies that are pretty, neat-o, or make you feel good, but supplies that don’t break the bank. I am tasked specifically with keeping supply costs down.
If you have a brand of pen that you like, buy your own and lock your desk!
Oh! DON’T hoard supplies!  As the procurer and distributor of said Office Supplies, I am the only one who is authorized to hoard supplies.  I do so for a reason. YOU DON’T NEED A YEARS SUPPLY OF PENS OR STICKY NOTES OR NOTEBOOKS AT YOUR DESK.
Office supplies are a privilege not a right.  Some companies make you get your own!
